Dodgers GM Confirms Plan for Gavin Lux to Be Starting Shortstop in 2024
The Dodgers suffered a severe setback before to the 2023 season even starting when Gavin Lux tore his ACL in
Miguel Rojas was acquired by the front office through a trade with the Miami Marlins. Lux was supposed to start the majority of the games at shortstop, with Rojas filling in as a backup utility player in the infield. But Lux’s injury forced Rojas to take over as the starting quarterback in 2023.
With one more wrinkle, the Dodgers’ predicament is now comparable to that of the previous season as we approach 2024.Rojas had a strong season with the team last year. As a shortstop, he shown his defensive prowess and made just enough offensive progress. The Dodgers enjoyed an offensively unprecedented regular season with him playing in 124 games.
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes gave a brief statement before the Winter Meetings regarding the team’s plans at shortstop in 2019.
Gomes stated, “We think he’s going to be our shortstop.” “And the advantage is that Miguel Rojas, who will set a very high standard, is behind him.”
For both the charity and Gavin Lux, this is wonderful news. Prior to suffering an injury, Lux appeared to be having a breakthrough season in 2023. It seems he will have that chance once more in the upcoming season.
Prior to having to deal with a neck ailment in 2022, Lux appeared to have advanced to the next level. Lux, who anchored the ninth position in the order, had an OPS of.817 and hit.307 in the first ninety games. Though his output did dip toward the conclusion of the season, he continued to display the abilities that won him the Minor League Player of the Year award in the past.
It appears that 2024 will be the season that we have all been hoping 2023 would have been for Lux. He still has plenty of time to establish himself as the future shortstop for the Dodgers at just 26 years old.
