During the upcoming offseason, the New York Yankees intend to create quite a statement.
It seems like the Yankees are after one of the league’s top players, which is great news for New York because they need to upgrade their оffensive. Yankees scouts have been the most active in their pursuit of San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto, who the Padres seem ready to deal.
The likelihood of a deal involving Soto is growing by the day, and according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Yankees are currently the “most obvious destination” for the player.
“If they make a deal, San Diego won’t recoup anything close to the haul of players it gave the Washingtоn Nationals for Soto — the sort of psychological barrier that has derailed plenty of potential deals in the past,” said Passan. However, A.J. Preller is well-known for the innovative deal-making that may facilitate this. New York Yankees scouts are looking for bats to re-energize an offense that finished 25th in MLB in runs scored this season. The Padres are interested in the Yankees’ major league-ready pitchers, and the Yankees’ farm system is deep enough to pique San Diego’s interest in a trade.
If the Yankees were to sign Soto, that would be a fantastic move. In addition to infield depth, they require a left-handed batter to fill the center of their lineup. Both of these criteria are met by Soto. Pinstripes in 2024 wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary now.
