The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Juan Uribe, a free agent at the time, to a three-year, $21 million contract on this day in 2010 with the goal of using him at second base.
After playing for the San Francisco Giants during the 2010 season, Uribe had a memorable season that included new career highs in RBI (85) and home runs (24) as well as a batting average of.256. That year’s World Series triumph for the Giants marked Uribe’s second championship.
2010 saw Uribe earn his 1,000th career hit as well.
Uribe only appeared in 143 games throughout his first two seasons with Los Angeles due to injuries, but he had a fantastic comeback in 2013, hitting.278/.331/.438 with 12 home runs.
During his last season, Uribe’s most memorable Dodgers moment came in the bottom of the eighth inning of Game 4 of the National League Division Series when he blasted the game-winning home run against the Atlanta Braves.
That helped Los Angeles win the series 4-3.
Even though the Dodgers would ultimately lose to the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Championship Series, Uribe’s game-winning hit will always be remembered as one of the highlights of the team’s postseason journey that year and as a testament to his legacy.
The Dodgers re-signed Uribe before the 2014 season, giving him a $15 million, two-year contract. But in May 2015, he was moved to the Braves to free up Justin Turner to start at third base every day.
The MLB career of Juan UribeIt’s not easy to play in the Major Leagues for 15 years, but Ubibio left a lasting reputation as a fantastic teammate and player throughout his seven different teams.
The Chicago White Sox and Giants two-time World Series champion finished his big league career with an.255 batting average, 199 home runs, and 816 RBI.
