After the Japanese sensation won a Silver Slugger, another All-Star selection, and his second AL MVP award this season, we are merely observing from the sidelines as Shohei Ohtani takes center stage.
Now that he’s a free agent after his time with the Angels, the athlete has added another trophy to his collection while he waits to sign what is widely believed to be the largest deal in Major League Baseball history.
data from Ohtani’s position as designated hitter
The Edgar Martínez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award, which acknowledges Shohei Ohtani as the top designated hitter in baseball, has been presented to him for the third consecutive season by Major League Baseball.
Batting.304/.412/.654 with 44 HR and 95 RBIs, the Japanese played 135 games in the designated hitter position. He was the American League leader in total bases (325), on-base percentage (OBP), and home runs, and he was also the MLB leader in SLG, OPS, and OPS+ (184).
The pitcher/slugger had another outstanding season on both sides of the ball, leading to his second consecutive unanimous MVP award: He had a 10-5 record with a 3.14 ERA in 132 innings pitched. He struck out 167 batters.
According to recent sources, Ohtani is reportedly being courted by a number of organizations, including the Dodgers, Cubs, Rangers, and Giants. In exchange for a short-term deal with the Angels, Ohtani is reportedly wanting a 10-year contract with multiple opt-outs from these teams.
