Before departing in free agency, Joc Pederson earned a World Series title. He was one of the first Los Angeles Dodgers prospects to make an impact in the Major Leagues during their current run of dominance in the National League West.
After the 2020 World Series, Pederson became a free agent. Like fellow postseason performer Kiké Hernández, he took advantage of this opportunity to sign with the Chicago Cubs, a new team, in order to increase his playing opportunities. After all, Hernández returned to the Dodgers in 2023, and Pederson might now do the same.
Since the start of free agency, the Dodgers have spoken with Pederson via David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio:
“I had brought up the Dodgers’ relationship with Joc Pederson. They’ve spoken with each other. Nothing that I can tell is about to happen.
Pederson was moved to the Atlanta Braves for the 2021 season, despite the fact that he originally joined the Cubs after leaving the Dodgers. Before becoming eligible for free agency, Pederson went on to win a second consecutive World Series.
Pederson signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the San Francisco Giants in March 2022, reuniting with Farhan Zaidi. After putting up an All-Star campaign, he accepted the $19.65 million qualifying offer to stay with the Giants through 2023.
Pederson appeared in 255 games (200 starts) during the previous two seasons with the Giants, hitting a combined.255/.351/.470 with 33 doubles, 38 home runs, 121 RBI, and a 128 wRC+.
If Pederson re-signed with the Dodgers, he would likely continue to be successful in platoon filling, which has been the most of his accomplishments. Furthermore, the fact that Pederson and the Dodgers met during the free agency period adds more proof that the franchise is considering improving at corner outfield.
Jason Heyward and the Dodgers are rumored to have already reached an agreement on a $9 million, one-year contract.
The Dodgers are almost done trading for Joc Pederson.
A few months prior to Pederson’s spectacular outbursts that helped the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series, he and Ross Stripling were on the verge of being traded to the Los Angeles Angels.
But the Dodgers’ transactions with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins caused a delay, which reportedly infuriated Angels owner Arte Moreno, who pulled out of the deal. Later on, Moreno denied any knowledge of a possible deal with the Dodgers.
