New York Yankees and San Diego Padres Discuss Juan Soto, While Cody Bellinger Remains Under Their Radar

The San Diego Padres’ talented outfielder Juan Soto is allegedly a target of the New York Yankees, and trade talks have heated up.

Reports indicate that the Yankees and Padres are reportedly “exchanging names on players” in their negotiations, as stated by Andy Martino of SNY. “The teams are not close to an agreement.” Another point was made, though.

“TҺe initiаl аsk wаs very ҺigҺ,” Mаrtinо sаiԀ, аԀԀing tҺаt Sаn Ԁiegо ҺаԀ mаԀe аn аpprоаcҺ.”TҺe exаct plаyers tҺe PаԀres аre seeking аre nоt knоwn, but tҺe teаm is sаiԀ tо be lооking аt tоp prоspects/rооkies like Jаssоn Ԁоminguez аnԀ аntҺоny Vоlpe, yоung mаjоr leаgue pitcҺers in tҺe MicҺаel King/Clаrke ScҺmiԀt cаtegоry, аnԀ mоre.”

The Yankees’ reluctance to trade their top young players for Soto is understandable. The left-handed power hitter is in the last year of his deal, so signing him can turn out to be little more than a rental. Martino said, “There is virtually no expectation that a team acquiring Soto this winter would be able to sign him to an extension before free agency.”

The Mets have been in desperate need of a left-handed power hitter for quite some time, so adding Soto to the lineup would be a huge upgrade. With 35 home runs and 109 RBI in 2023, the three-time All-Star led San Diego with a.275 hitting percentage. While discussing the Yankees, Martino said, “recognize Soto as a perfect fit for their needs.”

The Knicks are ready to get back on track after last season’s disappointing 82-80 record and postseason berth. The addition of Soto would be a huge boost to the team’s chances of returning to the World Series after a 2009 absence, but the Yankees are clearly unwilling to give up their farm system in order to get him.
