This past season, Gavin Lux was expected to start at shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers on a regular basis. However, early in spring training, Lux suffered damaged ligaments in both his right knee and his ACL.
Lux had surgery, which kept him out of commission for the whole year. The Dodgers ended up using Miguel Rojas, who was supposed to be an incredible utility player off the bench, as their starting shortstop.
Lux was supposed to return in the latter part of 2023, but the team never saw him return. Despite this, the 26-year-old gradually completed his rehab regimen and is expected to be fully recovered in time for the 2024 season’s Opening Day.
According to L.A. Times reporter Jack Harris, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes stated that the team expects Lux to regain his form in the upcoming season.
Gomes remarked, “I think Gavin has handled his rehab wonderfully.” “We’ll place a wager on his makeup and motivation to return and deliver an exceptional performance.”
Lux had action in 129 games and batted a strong 276/.346/.399 with 33 extra-base hits while playing three different positions in 2022, marking his first major opportunity.
Lux will now likely start playing shortstop every day for the first time in his professional career. Despite being selected as a shortstop in the draft, he has played 169 games at second base during his Major League career.
Rojas is likely to see time at shortstop, even though the Dodgers anticipate Lux to be the starting pitcher.
The Dodgers, who believe Lux can play shortstop, have allegedly remained interested in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for Adames, a right-handed bat that the team desperately needs.
Lux will probably return to second base if they choose that course, but for the time being, he is expected to spend almost all of his playing time at shortstop.
Among the Dodgers’ offered contracts was Gavin Lux.Every one of the Dodgers’ twelve players who qualify for salary arbitration received a contract offer. The players that make up the group are Dustin May, Evan Phillips, Will Smith, Ryan Yarbrough, Yency Almonte, Walker Buehler, Caleb Ferguson, J.P. Feyereisen, Victor González, Brusdar Graterol, and Dustin May.
Wander Suero offered the Dodgers 13 guys at first who might have been subject to wage arbitration, but he chose to pursue free agency.
