Adrián Beltré, a former third baseman for the Texas Rangers, has won his first ballot for the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame class. Adam Rubin, an ESPN baseball writer and member of the Baseball Writers Association of America, cast the vote, which was made public via the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot tracker. Beltré was one of the ten players, the maximum permitted each year, on Rubin’s ballot.
Given his stellar career, Beltré is a great contender for the first ballot induction. In his career, he has hit 3,166 hits, 477 home runs, and a batting average of.286. In addition, he has played for other teams, including the Boston Red Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Seattle Mariners, and the Rangers. He has 1,707 runs batted in (RBI).
Beyond his outstanding numbers, Beltré has won four All-Star games, five Gold Gloves (three with the Rangers), and four Silver Sluggers (two with the Rangers). In 2004, he was the National League leader in home runs.
Other players like Carlos Beltrán, Todd Helton, Andruw Jones, Alex Rodríguez, Manny Ramírez, Gary Sheffield, Chase Utley, Billy Wagner, and David Wright were also voted for by Adam Rubin. Jones and Rodriguez are also former Rangers.
Along with first-year candidates Joe Mauer, José Bautista, Bartolo Colon, Adrián González, Matt Holliday, Brandon Phillips, José Reyes, and James Shields, the remaining candidates on the list are Omar Vizquel, Andy Pettitte, Bobby Abreu, Jimmy Rollins, Mark Buehrle, Francisco Rodríguez, and Torii Hunter.
The whole class of inductees will be revealed on January 23. Baseball Writers Association of America members will have until December 31 to cast their votes. Following that, a panel will decide which candidates from the Contemporary Baseball Era Managers/Executives/Umpires ballot will move on to the ceremony the following year, which is set for July 21 in Cooperstown, New York. To be inducted, a player must receive 75% of the vote.
