The New York Yankees have hired Brad Ausmus, who was the manager of the Los Angeles Angels, to coach their bench this coming season. Joel Sherman of The New York Post, an MLB insider, was the one who broke the news about Ausmus.
He steps into the position that was vacant when Carlos Mendoza accepted the position of manager of the New York Mets. To try to find a team that would put him in a leadership role, Ausmus skipped the 2023 season after spending 2022 on the bench with the Oakland Athletics.
Although he had hoped to return to management duties this winter, the former Angels captain will have to make do with a bench job. If his tenure with the Yankees continues to go well, he will most likely make another run at managing a franchise next season.
After only one season of his three-year contract, the Angels cut ties with Ausmus. Many in the basketball community were ecstatic when the Halos hired him since he was among the most sought-after managers available.
The Angels’ poor performance in his lone season as team owner led to Arte Moreno’s decision to part ways with him. The former Angels manager Joe Maddon, who was too talented to pass up, replaced him.
Before joining the Angels in Anaheim, Ausmus played for the Detroit Tigers for a while, but he was never given the opportunity to prove his worth. During his four years as their leader, they made it to the playoffs once.
He was a joy to have around as team manager because of his high baseball IQ and his people skills. On this New York season, we hope Ausmus has the best of luck!
