Boston Celtics’ big man Kristaps Porzingis has reassured fans that the calf injury he sustained in the team’s recent loss to the Orlando Magic is not believed to be a severe concern. Despite leaving Friday’s game with 6:44 remaining in the third quarter and not returning, Porzingis expressed optimism about the injury.
Following the game, Porzingis mentioned that he is set to undergo an MRI on his left calf but conveyed that he doesn’t perceive the injury as “too serious.” Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe shared Porzingis’s comments on Twitter, stating, “Kristaps Porzingis tells the Globe he’ll have an MRI on his left calf tomorrow but doesn’t think the injury is too serious. Said he felt a tweak running the floor. Did not slip.”
Porzingis’ absence had a notable impact on the Celtics’ performance, especially in the second half against the Magic. The team struggled offensively, scoring just 40 points in the second half, and missed Porzingis’s contribution to spacing and pick-and-roll dynamics.
The Celtics will anxiously await the results of the MRI, as Porzingis has been a key contributor to their success on both ends of the court during the current season. His offensive versatility and defensive presence have played pivotal roles in the team’s impressive start to the 2023-24 campaign.
