J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts pushed the Dodgers to acquire Tommy Pham

The Los Angeles Dodgers finally acquired Kiké Hernández and Amed Rosario to fill their need for a right-handed hitter during this year’s MLB trade deadline.

Tommy Pham, who was dealt from the New York Mets to the Arizona Diamondbacks, was one of the other noteworthy right-handed hitters moved during the deadline. At the time of the trade, the seasoned outfielder was enjoying a successful season, and he carried that performance into his new squad.

Throughout 50 games for the Diamondbacks, Pham hit 241/.304/.415 with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 32 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. More than his on-field output, the 35-year-old’s ferocious edge was crucial to the team’s unexpected World Series run.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, Pham stated to reporters during a recent World Series media day that J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts pushed the Dodgers to sign him before the trade deadline.

Dodgers teammates Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez, who knew Pham was available, attested to him, according to Pham.

Pham also disclosed that he attempted to sign with the Dodgers as a free agent during the previous winter, but Andrew Friedman, the president of baseball operations, turned him down twice.

Pham batted first and got the last laugh.429/.429/.643 during 14 at-bats, including one home run and four runs scored, as the Diamondbacks defeated the Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

Tommy Pham could be signed by the Dodgers.Pham was one of the players who became a free agent after the season, so the Dodgers will have another shot to sign him this offseason after missing out on several chances to do so throughout 2023.

Pham might be of interest to the Dodgers since he would provide a corner outfield bat and had an excellent batted ball profile throughout the season. Even though Martinez is now a free agent, Betts might still encourage the Dodgers to sign Pham.

Bringing his personality into the mix might also be advantageous to the team. Pham should be on the Dodgers’ radar, but they should have broader plans with Shohei Ohtani and starting pitching in mind.
