The Maine Celtics hope to win on Friday night to ‘christen’ their new court

This Friday’s game between the Maine Celtics and the Long Island Nets promises to be a lot of firsts.

This season’s inaugural game on the team’s brand-new court will also be the first at home against the Portland Expo. After going winless to begin the season, the Celtics are now searching for their first victory of the year.

After beginning his NBA career on the road, rookie Jordan Walsh, who was selected in the 2023 NBA Draft out of Arkansas, expressed his excitement over having supporters scream for his team.

“I’m looking forward to this first game; hopefully, it will be as exciting and fun as everyone says it will be,” Walsh stated following practice on Wednesday. “I really adore it here, and my love for [Maine] has grown.”

The 38th overall draft pick stated that Portland is a great place for him and his teammates to grow both on and off the court.

As Walsh awaits his Expo debut, fans are thrilled to see J.D. Davison back in Portland. This season, he will divide time between Portland and Boston under a two-way deal.

“You have to be prepared at all times because you never know when the time will come,” Davison stated.

Considering that Blaine Mueller is making his head coaching debut for the Celtics this season, Davison added that there has been a lot of learning during practice thus far.

“It’s been a really fun experience, just the everyday growth; there’s always something new that you can’t really anticipate until it’s there; you have to learn your lessons and rely on the people around you when you find yourself in that situation,” Muller remarked.

After serving as the Milwaukee Bucks’ head coach for several years and winning an NBA championship there, the rookie head coach has moved to Portland.  Muller is fresh to this position, but he has experience coaching one Celtics player, Tony Snell, who played briefly for the Bucks.

In order for his players to advance, Muller stated that they must comprehend what it takes to succeed in the G-League and the NBA and come to terms with their position in Portland.

The head cоach expressed his excitement abоut shоwcasing his team’s abilities tо the hоme crоwd after their rоad travels tо Washingtоn, D.C. and New Yоrk.
