This season, Steer played five different positions on the diamond, demonstrating his incredible versatility once again.
Electric shortstop Elly De La Cruz, who shocked many in the baseball world with his enormous power, blazing speed, and lightning arm in the field, was the third and final Reds player to be considered for Rookie of the Year.
De La Cruz scored 67 runs, stole 35 bases, and hit 13 home runs in 98 games. As the season came to an end, the 21-year-old also had a great deal of difficulty at times; he finished with 144 strikeouts while hitting just.200 after August 1.
One vote went to De La Cruz in third place.
Total points were used as the basis for the voting system; five points were awarded for first place, three for second, and one for third.
Behind Carroll in the order of completion were Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman and starting pitcher Kodai Senga of the New York Mets.
The Baltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson was the unanimous winner of the Rookie of the Year award in the American League.
Later this week, the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, and Manager of the Year honors will be revealed. After throwing 184 innings this season with the Minnesota Twins and recording a 2.79 ERA, former Reds starter Sonny Gray is a nominee for the American League Cy Young award. After the World Series, Gray’s 34-year-old contract ended, making him a free agent at this time.
