This is further positive news for the Heat, who are on the upswing.
Martin played against the Pistons for almost 20 minutes off the bench, scoring two points on one field goal in seven attempts. Despite his terrible performance, the Heat nevertheless upset the Pistons by one point to claim their first win of the season.
Recently, the Heat have been successful despite without their star reserve player, Martin. A win on Nov. 12 against the San Antonio Spurs extended the team’s current winning streak to five games. Duncan Robinson scored 26 points to lead the Heat to a five-point victory over the Spurs.
Martin is entering his third year with the legendary Heat team and is coming off the best year of his professional career. He appeared in 71 games for Miami during the 2022-23 season, averaging 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from 3-point range.
The 28-year-old then elevated his play significantly for Miami in the postseason. He was outstanding in the Eastern Conference Finals as he led the Heat to the NBA Championship Series against the Boston Celtics.
Martin shot a blistering 60.2% from the field and 48.9% from outside the arc in the Eastern Conference Finals, averaging 19.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
Perhaps his best performance of the series occurred in the decisive Game 7. In that game, he scored 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists. In addition, he made 11 of 16 field goal attempts and four of six threes as Miami cruised to a 19-point victory.
It appears that Martin has a good shot at rejoining the Miami Heat lineup within a week, which is excellent news as they try to extend their winning streak.
