The Yankees from New York are not wasting any time.
After a lackluster 2023 season, New York needs to make some changes to their offensive, and it seems like it is starting early. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have already discussed a potential signing with the representative of outfielder Cody Bellinger as free agency approaches.
“The Yankees’ best hope to revive their lineup with one move is probably Bellinger, and they’ve already touched base on the free agent who returned to superstardom his first year on the North Side of Chicago,” Heyman stated. Bellinger, who can play first base or center field at a high level, is reportedly liked by the Yankees. In a way, he fits best.
“I think we’re fairly (bleeping) excellent, Cashman said, defending their operation vigorously against a game press corps. However, he also acknowledged they could use two outfielders, including a center fielder. There will be fierce rivalry for Bellinger’s services, and the Cubs, who signed him for $16.5 million for 2023 in the winter trade of the year, will be a strong contender. He reportedly had a great year there.”
As a free agent, Bellinger joined with the Chicago Cubs last season and became a sensation again. 26 home runs, 97 RBIs, and an outstanding slash line of.307/.356/.525 were his season totals. Given that New York has frequently been mentioned as a potential bidder for his skills, it is not surprising that the city has already inquired about a potential signing.
Now that free agency is officially under way, it won’t be long until we find out if the Yankees can truly sign their target.
