Celtics first loss: Anthony Edwards’ heroics propel Timberwolves to overtime victory

In a thrilling contest, Anthony Edwards showcased his scoring prowess, dropping 38 points on the Boston Celtics and leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a hard-fought 114-109 overtime victory. This defeat marked the first loss for the Celtics this season, and it was Edwards who shone the brightest on this memorable night.

The game began with Jaylen Brown’s emphatic dunk over Rudy Gobert, a moment that set the tone for what promised to be an intense matchup. Brown, along with Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis, hinted at a potential runaway performance for the Celtics. However, the night took an unexpected turn.

Porzingis found himself in foul trouble, struggling to contain the relentless Rudy Gobert. Jrue Holiday had a subpar shooting night, and Tatum, despite a fiery start, faded as the game progressed, managing to take only three shots during a pivotal third quarter in which the Timberwolves took the lead.

The hero of the night, Anthony Edwards, rose to the occasion, displaying remarkable composure and clutch play. He sank three pivotal shots in a row during overtime, propelling the Timberwolves ahead of the Celtics. Edwards had been challenging the Celtics throughout the game, and his efforts culminated in handing them their first loss of the season with a final score of 114-109.

Boston experimented with different lineups, deploying Lamar Stevens and a deep bench unit led by Svi Mykhailiuk, with Tatum as the lone staggered starter. Despite building a 17-12 lead, the Celtics couldn’t maintain their momentum. Notably, Oshae Brissett was sidelined due to a left hand injury, and Porzingis, despite dealing with an eye ailment, took to the court after being listed as questionable. Derrick White missed the game for personal reasons after the birth of his second child.
