Cubs starter linked to New York Yankees in free agency

Carlos Rodón, the starting pitcher, was sidelined for a large portion of the 2023 season by the New York Yankees. Nestor Cortés, a fellow starter, concluded the campaign on the 60-day disabled list. Michael King, a third starter, was previously a reliever.

Marcus Stroman, who is currently a free agent after allegedly declining his $21 million player option with the Chicago Cubs, is one possible choice if they do. After Stroman exercised his option, the Yankees were one of five teams connected to him.

He was 16-16 with an ERA of 4.22 in two seasons with Chicago, 238 strikeouts in 275.1 innings thrown.

His 2023 season is off to a terrific start, as he was selected for his second All-Star Game. However, a few ailments limited his season’s second half. He made it clear during the season that he intended to negotiate a long-term contract with the Cubs, but the group chose not to pursue the possibility.

He will soon turn 33, and the Yankees may find him to be a reliable rotation option. He has two seasons of pitching experience in New York with the Mets, so he is accustomed to dealing with market pressure.

Over his career, Stroman has won at least ten games five times, been selected twice as an All-Star, and won a Gold Glove, which he received while playing for the Toronto Blue Jays.
