Corey Seager, the MVP of the Rangers World Series, is renowned for his composed manner on the field. But everyone was taken aback by his latest outburst following his game-tying home run in Game 1 of the World Series. Social media users also took notice of Seager’s joke about Astros player Alex Bregman during the Rangers World Series parade.
Seager began his address at the parade by expressing gratitude to the supporters. He was compelled to take a stab at Bregman and the Astros, though. According to Seager, “everyone was curious about what would happen if the Rangers were not the World Series winners. We’ll never know, I guess. His teammates and the audience were enthused by his comment.
After the Astros won the AL West on the final day of the regular season, Bregman made a similar speech, to which Seager responded directly. The Astros won the tiebreaker, which cost the Rangers the lead they had held for the majority of the season. “A lot of people were wondering what it was going to be like if the ‘Stros didn’t win the division,” Bregman mocked the Rangers. We’ll never know, I guess.
Even on social media, the Astros made fun of the Rangers by writing, “We celebrate titles in Houston,” as the caption for a video of Bregman’s speech. But when the Rangers overcame the Astros in the ALCS and won Games 6 and 7 in Houston, they proceeded to the World Series, turning the momentum of the series.
With three home runs and six RBI at the Fall Classic, Seager had a strong showing. As the only two-time MVP in MLB history, he joined the select group of Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, and Reggie Jackson after winning his second World Series MVP honor.
Seager’s statement during the parade was the ideal reply to Houston’s jeers. After assisting the Rangers in securing their World Series berth, he had every right to retaliate.
