It’s no secret that the New York Yankees will be one of baseball’s busiest clubs this summer.
New York, which won just 82 games in 2023, faces a crucial offseason. The Yankees have already brought in an independent firm to analyze the team and recommend improvements. The Yankees are expected to make significant roster changes this offseason.
Many players have been connected to the Yankees before free agency has even begun. Free agency is about to start now that the World Series has concluded. While it appears that adding a bat to the lineup and a starting pitcher are the major goals, New York may also attempt to bolster its strong bullpen. The Yankees had the greatest bullpen in MLB in 2023 and apparently could be aiming to improve by adding Cuban hurler Yariel Rodríguez, according to Major League MLB’s Francys Romero.
“Sources: 10 teams right now are the strongest candidates to sign the Cuban (right-handed pitcher) Yariel Rodríguez (26): Yankees, (Houston Astros), (Texas Rangers), (Pittsburgh Pirates), (Los Angeles Dodgers), (Philadelphia Phillies), (Toronto Blue Jays), (Chicago White Sox), (New York Mets), and (San Francisco Giants).
While on the market for a new contract, Rodriguez tried out three times in a row, throwing 94-97 MPH with dominating stuff including a curveball and slider. I consulted various professionals in the field, and they all seem to agree that Rodriguez will sign a multiyear contract worth between $40,000 and $70,000,000.
As a member of the Chunichi Dragons of the Japan Central League, Rodriguez excelled. He had a 1.15 ERA in 56 appearances in 2022 and a 2.95 ERA in 19 outings the year before. To focus on making the move to Major League Baseball, he didn’t pitch for the Dragons in 2023, but they insisted that his contract was still active.
Now that free agency has begun in Major League Baseball, he is a free agent and can sign with any team.
