The Los Angeles Angels have a lot of wiggle room in their roster and how they forecast salary with players under contract in 2024 heading into the summer. Anthony Rendon, Mike Trout, and Tyler Anderson are among those anticipated to return next season, while others may have their options refused.
The Angels currently have seven players under contract for the 2024 season, with two club options in Eduardo Escobar and Aaron Loup. Spotrac forecasts after payroll and all arbitration disputes put them at somewhat more than $161 million, leaving them with roughly $106 million to the competitive balance tax (CBT) level.
Anderson, Brandon Drury, Carlos Estévez, David Fletcher, Rendon, Max Stassi, and Trout are all under contract with the Angels for next season.
Those with options, Minor League players, and those eligible for wage arbitration will not be included.
Angels contract for 2024
Tyler Anderson
Anderson is the Angels’ third-highest-paid player, with an average annual value of $13 million in the second year of a three-year, $39 million contract.
When the 2024 season begins, he will be 34 years old.
Brandon Drury
Drury is in the final year of his two-year, $17 million contract with the Angels, which he signed prior to last season. He is now Major League Baseball’s 16th highest paid second baseman.
Eduardo Escobar
Escobar was moved to the Angels in the middle of the season, but he has a $9 million club option for the offseason.
Carlos Estévez
The Angels closer proved his worth by being named to his first All-Star Game, and he is now in the final year of a two-year, $13.5 million contract he signed before the 2023 season. If general manager Perry Minasian decides to sell the excellent right-hander, Estévez should be a trade candidate.
David Fletcher
The Angels bought out Fletcher’s arbitration years when he signed a five-year, $26 million contract in April 2021. He has an AAV of $6 million, which is a reasonable price given the variety he offers.
Aaron Loup
The veteran left-hander missed much of the 2023 season due to injury, and the Angels have the choice to either pick up his $7.5 million club option for 2024 or execute his $2 million buyout if they refuse.
Anthony Rendon
Rendon is in the sixth year of a seven-year, $245 million contract signed before the 2020 season. He carries a luxury tax charge of $35 million, with all-in cash for the 2024 season totaling $38 million.
His contract contains a complete no-trade clause.
Max Stassi
The veteran catcher missed the entire 2023 season due to a private family problem, but he is now in the final year of his three-year, $17.5 million contract. Stassi has an AAV of $7 million for 2024.
Mike Trout
Trout, the Angels’ longest-tenured player, has a full no-trade provision in his current contract and earns a base salary of $35.45 million in his 12th season in the league. He’s signed through the 2030 season.
