The Thunder had a perfect start to the season before losing to the reigning champs for the first time this year. Two-time MVP Nikola Jokic and the front-runner for Rookie of the Year, Chet Holmgren, faced off in an exciting contest. Even though Jokic defeated the newbie, he departed with some crucial weight-gain advice that Chet probably already knew from family and coaches.
“This is his first year, but he’s a really talented guy.” He continues to learn everything. To be honest, I believe he needs to gain a little more weight. However, he does possess a special gift.
Chet finished the game with 19 points, having held his own against Jokic. But against Jokic, he was unable to rebound, only managing to gather four. Despite his defensive prowess, he was also unable to effectively guard Jokic. In a commanding performance, the reigning Finals MVP scored 28 points on 12/15 shooting and pulled down 14 rebounds.
In one of their worst backcourt outings, Josh Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander combined for 16 points, making Holmgren’s lead guards vanish. Despite their 2-1 regular-season record, the club is still expected to challenge other postseason candidates.
Chet Holmgren Will Not Intentionally Gain Weight Or Muscle
To get jacked, Chet Holmgren doesn’t think he has to run to the gym and start lifting the biggest weights. He must, however, follow a certain strategy in order to put on this weight without impairing his hooping skills, particularly his shooting. For these reasons, Holmgren would prefer to take his time getting to his ideal weight rather than trying to get it as soon as possible.
It goes beyond simply being large. The game now has so much depth. You need to be able to perform a wide range of tasks while remaining still. It’s not always about putting on weight. Basically, I’m just attempting to get stronger and more athletic with my physique. Actually, when you gain muscle and age, you always gain weight. It’s kind of a given. However, I just want to gain some large, broad shoulders, and I don’t want to add too much weight. Right now, I’m moving slowly; I can’t move, and my knees hurt. Working on my body overall and how it affects my game has been the main focus.”
If Holmgren plays with such a tiny physique, he will fight injuries one way or another for the majority of his career. Even Kristaps Porzingis, who is presently balling out in Boston, noticed an improvement in his availability and health after losing weight. Nikola Jokic shed a lot of weight during the 2020 summer and went on to win consecutive MVP awards.
Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren Weigh Less Than Shaquille O’Neal
When the Lakers won their third consecutive championship in 2002, Shaquille O’Neal disclosed that he weighed 415 pounds. But according to their rookie statistics, Chet and Victor Wembanyama weigh a combined 405 pounds.
Shaq’s comparison of Wembanyama to chicken soup, based on how simple it would be to cook, shows that he has no regard for NBA players with this build.
“I think people better watch out, but if this was our era, bang him, he’d be chicken noodle soup, which I kind of like.”
It would be intriguing to watch how the NBA would expect slender centers who can shoot and dribble like guards to guard someone like Prime Shaq while also adhering to all of the rules of the NBA’s Participation Policy.
