It’s quite unlikely that Shohei Ohtani will remain with the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels haven’t been and still aren’t prepared to win with him as the starting pitcher. Ohtani has been with the Angels for six seasons, and in none of them have they ended with a winning record. Of course, they haven’t been successful enough to reach the playoffs under him either.
Although there is promising young talent on the Angels squad, they are not yet contenders. Particularly in the Western Division of AL.
Speculation about where Ohtani may sign has skyrocketed now that he is likely leaving. Even though it has always seemed like the Dodgers would be the best fit for Ohtani, Jon Heyman of the New York Post now has two new co-favorites to sign him. One of them is a nightmare waiting to happen.
A disastrоus оutcоme wоuld be the signing оf Shоhei оhtani tо a massive cоntract by the American League Champiоn Texas Rangers.
Three different teams all have 6-1 odds according to Heyman to sign the Japanese great. One of the three is the Los Angeles Dodgers; the other two are the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers.
The Dodgers are the most logical choice, given they have been winning consistently and have plenty of resources to improve their team. Even though their success has been more erratic in recent years, the Giants still make sense. They were willing to pay outlandish sums for Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa last year, and they will try to entice Ohtani to be the new face of the team.
The Texas Rangers are tied fоr third best оdds, which, оf cоurse, is disastrоus. The Rangers are in the AL West and the Wоrld Series right nоw. Imagine having Shоhei оhtani оn yоur squad, оnly tо have tо play against him 13 times a seasоn while alsо trying tо win yоur divisiоn. The wоrst!
Heyman notes that the Rangers have spent freely in recent years and were ready to go after Ohtani at the trade deadline if he became available. Ohtani’s return to pitching might make the Rangers heavy World Series favorites in 2024. If he can replace someone like Mitch Garver, he could be unstoppable.
It would be one thing if Ohtani decided to stay in Los Angeles and join the Dodgers. Even though it would be frustrating, at least he wouldn’t have much of an impact on the Angels’ record playing in the National League. With other clubs like the Astros and Mariners in the division, it will be difficult for this team to compete in the near future if Ohtani ends up in Texas.
