The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series, keeping the team one victory away from making it to the World Series for the second straight season.

As a result, the Los Angeles Dodgers are still the only team to have won the NL pennant in back-to-back years since 2009. The Dodgers became the first team since the 2008–2009 Phillies to make it to the Fall Classic in back-to-back seasons when they completed the feat in 2017 and 2018.

It was the Dodgers’ first World Series appearance since 1988. After defeating the reigning champion Chicago Cubs in the NLCS and sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS, they punched their ticket that year.

The Houston Astros went on to win the World Series in seven games against the Dodgers. At the time, the game was regarded as one of the greatest in MLB history, but Houston’s sign-stealing controversy has since overshadowed it.

After defeating the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers in the first two postseason rounds, Los Angeles made a return trip to the Fall Classic in 2018. But the Boston Red Sox outmatched the Dodgers, and they ended up losing in five games.

The 2020 season was cut short by the epidemic, but the Dodgers overcame their early struggles and won their first World Series since 1988, when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in six games.
