The Diamondbacks’ All-Star is accustomed to drawing attention to himself and has experimented with several different styles for his beautiful locks. Attracting the attention of Blue Jays supporters all around the country, Gurriel used to regularly dip his mane in a vat of ocean-blue dye during his time in Canada.

He’s really stepped it up since moving to Arizona. In recent months, he’s been channeling his inner Prince by glossing his long hair a regal purple.

Gurriel then slathers his fried hair in a mountain of grease. The result? He may style his hair in any way he likes to achieve whatever appearance he desires.

To put it simply, “I spend a lot, a lot, a lot of time (on it),” Gurriel declared. To keep my hair in such good condition, I adhere to a strict regimen of treatments and maintenance.

Gurriel’s nickname, “La Pia,” or “The Pineapple,” refers to his unique hairstyle, which is reminiscent of the steampunk aesthetic. Why is that? Simply put, his hair is too spiky to ignore.

Over the course of his career, Gurriel has come to accept the moniker. During this year’s All-Star Red Carpet event, he wore a series of brightly colored costumes covered in pineapples to go along with his songs.
