MLB revealed the 2023 Rawlings Gold Glove Award candidates, and ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” will present the winners on Sunday, November 5 at 4:30 p.m. PT.
Thirty MLB managers cast their votes, along with up to six coaches from each team selected from a pool of players in their league—excluding players on their own team—to determine the winners for the nine key positions. Seventy-five percent of the selection total comes from those votes; the remaining 25 percent comes from the SABR Defensive Index.
A unique defensive algorithm developed in partnership with SABR and Rawlings determines the utility position, which was granted for the first time in 2022. This formula is different from the conventional selection process.
Three players from the Los Angeles Dodgers are in the running for the four spots: Freddie Freeman at first base, David Peralta in left field, and Mookie Betts in right field and utility.
Though none of the three players are favored to add to their already impressive collection, they have all already received Gold Glove awards in their careers.
