Will the New York Yankees’ starting rotation get better during the offseason?
In 2023, New York boasted one of the best paper rotations, anchored by Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón, but the club was ravaged by injuries and poor play. The Yankees need to go back to the drawing board and rework their starting rotation.
There have been speculations that the Yankees are interested in a number of stars, and those whispers will persist until the team is in a position to make a move. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the youthful ace for the Orix Buffaloes, has been mentioned multiple times. Will Sammon of The Athletic predicts that Yamamoto will be one of the most sought-after free agents this winter, and that the most recent information about his intentions is encouraging for Yankees fans.
“Similаr tо hоw (Kоdаi Sengа) felt lаst оffseаsоn, Yаmаmоtо cоvets the оppоrtunity tо plаy in а lаrge mаrket, leаgue sоurces sаy,” stаted Sаmmоn. “The Lоs аngeles Dоdgers, Sаn Frаnciscо Giаnts, Chicаgо Cubs, аnd New Yоrk Yаnkees, аmоng оthers, prоfile аs teаms thаt cоuld mаke а seriоus run аt Yаmаmоtо.”
If you’re looking for a big market, New York is it. The Yankees play in baseball’s largest market, and with Yamamoto on board, they’d be even better. Yamamoto is the right player for New York to make a splash with this offseason. Together, Yamamoto and Cole would immediately become one of the top duos in baseball and significantly boost the club’s rotation.
There is a good chance that the Yankees will make the playoffs again in 2024 thanks to the depth of talent on their roster. New York could be able to compete again if they sign Yamamoto.
