The 2023 season was a disappointing one for New York as they only managed to win 82 games. The Yankees have previously announced that they will be exploring organizational changes this offseason, which will result in both additions and subtractions to the team’s roster. A strong bat in the middle of the lineup and one or two more reliable starters are New York’s most pressing personnel requirements.
NBC Sports’ D.J. Short reports that the Yankees are considering a number of options, including notable players like Cody Bellinger of the Chicago Cubs, Jordan Montgomery of the Texas Rangers, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Orix Buffaloes.
“That process aside, the Yankees have some obvious needs, most notably a left-handed hitting outfielder,” noted Short. Cody Bellinger, an impending free agent who helped turn things around for the Chicago Cubs last season, has been named more often than any other player, although he will command a hefty sum of money.
Expect the Yankees to strengthen their rotation as well as address deficiencies in their starting lineup. The Yankees might reunite with Jordan Montgomery, and they should also be among the top teams interested in signing star Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Multiple reports have mentioned the Yankees’ interest in Bellinger, Montgomery, and Yamamoto. After missing the playoffs, the Yankees are expected to be extremely active and make significant roster changes. Despite rumors to the contrary, Chicago managed to keep Bellinger all season long.
The Yankees would have a very productive offseason if they could sign Bellinger and either Montgomery or Yamamoto.
