Arizona may not have lit the world on fire with their bats, but they did what it took to win and close their NLCS deficit to 2-1 in a historic Game 3 nail-biter that the D-backs had to win.

During the series, Arizona was facing certain elimination; however, the entire series was salvaged by Ketel Marte’s dramatic walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.Shortly after the game, Marte stood at his locker in the clubhouse and stated, still gasping for air, “After my hit, I sprinted so hard.”

Throughout the postseason, Marte has been a prominent performer for the Diamondbacks. He spoke confidently about his game-winning at-bat.

“Not that I’m a pressure guy. “I am aware of my nature as a hitter,” he declared.

ImageThe D-backs’ late-game heroics were made possible by rookie pitcher Brandon Pfaadt, who turned in a fantastic pitching performance that went 5 2/3 innings without giving up a run. The game remained tight the entire time.

Being the first pitcher in postseason history to record two straight outings without allowing any runs or walks, Pfaadt’s steady play in the postseason has been a huge asset for the squad.

It was enjoyable. Many things were functioning for me. I was able to focus on a few things, carry out my plan, and make some significant plays,” Pfaadt remarked.

After Bryce Harper scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, the Phillies took the lead. But Arizona answered quickly, tying the game with an RBI double from Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

The manager of Philadelphia, Rob Thomson, recognized that the game was intense, saying, “You know, it could have gone either way.” How do you intend to proceed? I refuse to consider it in that manner. I’m going to consider coming in tomorrow and preparing myself for the competition.
