Victor Wembanyama, a rookie for the San Antonio Spurs, is someone you have to see to believe. It’s even more surprising that someone with Wembanyama’s stature be as good a basketball player on both ends of the court as he is because not many people are 7’4″ tall to begin with. Furthermore, the Golden State Warriors witnessed firsthand on Friday night what a physical oddity Wembanyama is.
The height disparity between Wembanyama and Chris Paul, a Warriors veteran, was particularly noticeable when the Spurs defeated the Dubs 122-117 in the preseason. Wembanyama and Paul made the decision to switch jerseys after the game, and the two had their photos taken inside the Chase Center tunnel. Paul, who is 6’0,” felt the need to bend slightly in order to make himself appear taller in the picture with the highly valued Spurs rookie.
It is very amazing how much the two differ in height. To be sure, Chris Paul is short in comparison to other NBA players, but he’s a big guy in comparison to other people, including taller males living in the United States. Based on the most recent data, the average height of guys in the United States is approximately five feet nine inches. Therefore, the Warriors guard is three inches taller than the average male. And yet, in comparison to the enormous Victor Wembanyama, he appears to be a baby.
As you can clearly see in the video and picture above, Paul forfeits 16 inches of height and 20 inches of wingspan in comparison to the Spurs rookie. For added context, the Warriors veteran is nearly twice Wembanyama’s age, but there he was, asking his tall father for cookies like a three-year-old who hasn’t even mastered walking and hasn’t even passed the four-foot mark.
After tipping his toes, Chris Paul gained how many inches at all? Three or two? In any case, the Warriors veteran does not look good in a photo with Victor Wembanyama, though maybe that is the idea. After all, these two have fantastic comedy potential; it seems like they would make a wonderful office sitcom.
