Alex Rodriguez is a controversial figure since he was a prominent player during Major League Baseball’s (MLB) steroid era. Nonetheless, he finished his career with 696 home runs, an accomplishment only four other players have accomplished.

In 2021, the first year after Rodriguez’s retirement, New York wore a different number than 13. Joey Gallo, an outfielder, was the lucky receiver, and Rodriguez acknowledged his displeasure with the decision.
Rodriguez said, “It did not make me happy,” during an interview broadcast on New York’s WFAN-AM on Thursday.

According to the Fox MLB expert, publicly criticizing the Yankees on television “doesn’t help” his cause of having his number retired. But he hopes that one day he will be able to join the other great Yankees in Monument Park.
“Yeah, of course it bothers me,” Rodriguez admitted. It’s not too much of a hassle to be honored at one of the most prestigious locations in Yankee lore, but it’s not up to me whether or not it happens.
The Yankees have honored 24 players by retiring 22 jersey numbers, the most of any MLB team. It’s unclear if Rodriguez will be inducted into Monument Park like past Yankees greats.
