Ohtani, Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, and Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers are the three candidates for Player of the Year. Along with Yandy Díaz of the Tampa Bay Rays and Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers, Ohtani is also a candidate for the American League Outstanding Player Award.

Ohtani had a fantastic hit 304/.412/.654 in 599 plate appearances (135 games) this season with 26 doubles, 8 triples, 44 home runs, 95 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. He pitched 132 innings (23 starts) and was 10-5 on the mound with a 3.14 ERA, 4.00 FIP, 1.06 WHIP, and 11.4 strikeouts per nine.

Ohtani, who was previously nominated as a nominee for the Hank Aaron Award, is the overwhelming favorite to win AL MVP.

Major League Baseball Needs Shohei Ohtani As A Catalyst Of Change In 2022

The coveted Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award is one of the major accolades; it is given each year to the player “whose leadership most inspires others to higher levels of achievement.”

In addition, a living or deceased former player “who, in the image of Flood, demonstrated a selfless, longtime devotion to the Players Association and advancement of Players’ rights” will receive the Curt Flood Award.

The Players Choice Awards have honored both on- and off-field achievements since 1992. All participants cast their votes in late September.

The winners of the 2023 Players Choice Awards will be revealed on Thursday, November 2, at 3 p.m. PT on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
