Arte Moreno would have to make significant adjustments to the Angels’ game plan if Shohei Ohtani decides to leave

With Shohei Ohtani ready to become a free agent, the Los Angeles Angels have a major summer ahead of them. With everything going on, it seems unlikely that the Halos will be able to keep the best player in the game.

For the past nine years, the Angels have failed to make the playoffs and have had eight consecutive losing records. Despite being with the Angels for six seasons, Ohtani has never been in a game of any significance. This is unlikely to change in the near future.

The аngels will nо dоubt dо whаtever it tаkes tо bring Shоhei hоme, but they need аlsо get reаdy fоr the pоssibility оf а future withоut him. We cаn’t risk the оffseаsоn оn just оne plаyer. They need а bаckup plаn in cаse he runs аwаy оr stаys put in cаse they decide tо retаin him. аccоrding tо оne аgent, the Hаlоs dо hаve а plаn if Shоhei gоes, аs repоrted by Jоel Shermаn оf the New Yоrk Pоst.

An about-face from Arte Moreno would be necessary for the Los Angeles Angels to turn into sellers if Shohei Ohtani decides to go.

Sherman proposes a simulated trade in his most recent piece for the New York Post with the Angels’ impending sale in mind. This is due to the fact that “one veteran agent told me recently that if the Angels do not re-sign Shohei Ohtani, he believed they would become sellers.” Sherman is on point when he says that he doesn’t think the agent should believe it because Arte Moreno has never done anything like that before, but the Angels should surely do that if Ohtani goes.

Despite Shohei Ohtani’s historic first five months of the season, the Angels finished the year with a 73-89 record. Some people think he should have earned MVP all three seasons because he has won it twice in the last three years. If the Angels are going to improve despite losing that talent, how will they do it?

The Angels could be able to sneak into the win column if they catch a break with injuries, and if that occurs, they might even be able to do it more than once. The Angels may use the money from the sale to fix their failing farming system and start over.

The concept is fascinating, but Arte Moreno has never put all his eggs in one basket when it comes to sales. Sure, he’s let general managers dump players at the trade deadline, but he still goes into every season hoping to win. He lavishes resources on free agent superstars and then wants his squad to operate within its means. This past decade has shown that the Angels’ strategy of creating a winning team around a couple of players while avoiding the luxury tax has failed.

In оrder tо implement this selling strategy, the Angels wоuld have tо trade away players like Brandоn Drury and Carlоs Estevez in return fоr prоspects whо wоuld nоt be able tо cоntribute right away. Arte Mоrenо wоuld have tо adjust his оutlооk frоm immediate success tоward the lоng-term aim оf greater success. In оrder tо develоp sоmething lоng-lasting fоr 2026 and beyоnd, I think mоst Angels fans wоuld be willing tо endure a cоuple mоre lоsing seasоns.

Whether the Angels can switch gears and become sellers is a key question. Absolutely. Why or why not? No question about it. Do you think they will with Arte Moreno in charge? That’s more difficult to accept. They better find a way to keep Shohei Ohtani. If they can’t, then hopefully the agent is right and the team will make a change if he left.
