Curry wins the game with a 16-point haul in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors defeated the Sacramento Kings 116-115 on Wednesday at Chase Center thanks to a game-winning 3-pointer from Stephen Curry, who read De’Aaron Fox well. With a 13-point deficit going into the fourth quarter, the Dubs went on a massive scoring binge, scoring 40 points, highlighted by 16 points and 4 splashes from Curry. In keeping the Kings asleep, Curry concluded the evening with his trademark “Night Night” celebration, just as he did to end Game 7 of the 2023 Western Conference Quarterfinals with the first-ever Game 7 50-piece.
With one last preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday at 7:00 p.m., the Warriors are undefeated at 4-0.
Curry’s Amazing Evening
With 30 points and eight made threes in 31 minutes, Curry led all scorers. He shot 8 of 12 from behind the arc and 10 of 18 from the floor, demonstrating his remarkable efficiency. Chris Paul and Curry carried the offense in the closing minutes. Paul inbounding with 6.4 seconds left, the two-time MVP grabbed the ball and set himself up against De’Aaron Fox on the right wing. Using a stepback move, he got Fox leaning and made the rainbow 3-pointer. Curry appeared to sense the success of the shot as soon as it left his hands. He walked back swaggering, displaying his tongue, and turned to face the boisterous Chase Center audience.
SIXTH MAN’S FIRST GAME (CP3)
For the first time since Paul moved to the Bay, the Warriors decided to take him off the bench on Wednesday. Paul started the two previous preseason games against the Los Angeles Lakers but did not play in the previous game against the Kings on Sunday. Entering his 19th NBA season, the seasoned point guard has never been used off the bench.
In the pregame warm-up, head coach Steve Kerr explained why he decided to start Paul off the bench: he wanted to encourage the 12-time All-Star to be himself.
Kerr remarked, “I told him we need him to be himself.” “He’s attempting to blend in; occasionally we require him to make four consecutive mid-range jumpers.”
In addition, Kerr revealed that nothing is written in stone and that he will probably try a different lineup for Friday’s last preseason game against the Spurs. Paul’s attitude to training camp has been welcomed, and he has mentioned that he wants to succeed and “be a part of something special.”
When Paul checked in on Wednesday, the Dubs were behind by seven points with 7:51 left in the first quarter. After that, the Warriors would go on a 10-2 run, and the floor general was in the thick of things.
Paul found Curry for a 3-pointer off a double drag screen with 5:18 left in the first quarter. After a Kings turnover, he quickened the pace on the next possession and found Curry, who attacked the paint with his downhill speed and fed Trayce Jackson-Davis for a two-hand dunk.
In just 29 minutes, Paul ended with 13 points, a game-high nine assists, six rebounds, and three 3-pointers from beyond the arc. His plus-minus (+9) tied Andrew Wiggins for the highest of the game.
ŠARIĆ SCORE ACTION AND SCREEN
Paul’s play with the second unit gave him and Dario Šarić many more opportunity to play the two-man game. The two former colleagues of the Phoenix Suns already have a fantastic relationship, which was evident on Wednesday. Paul was given numerous opportunities to make a play for a teammate, roll to the basket, or pop out for a 3-point shot when Šarić put up high ball screens for him. He rolled to the hoop with Paul’s help for four of his six field goals. With 14 points and six rebounds (tied with Paul) in 28 minutes, Šarić topped all reserves.
Jackson-First Davis’s
During the final moments of the Dubs’ overtime triumph in Sacramento on Sunday, rookie center Trayce Jackson-Davis played a crucial role. He was rewarded with his first preseason start on Thursday. With 13 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes, Jackson-Davis produced his first double-double in response.
