After defeating the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series for a second straight year, the Philadelphia Phillies have advanced to the National League Championship Series. The Arizona Diamondbacks, who are the underdogs, defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.
The Phillies are on the verge of making it to the World Series for the second time in a row, despite underperforming in the regular season each of the previous two seasons. They have managed to ramp up their play come October.
Over the past few seasons, they have been aggressive in improving their roster, and the results have been worthwhile. Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, and Zack Wheeler are just a few of the studs that have been added; they have all been crucial to the Phillies’ postseason success.
After enduring a second Tommy John surgery, Walker Buehler was able to witness the last two postseasons in full as an observer. He discussed what he believes is causing the Phillies to be so successful in the playoffs on Just Baseball Fans on YouTube.
“I think that having so many professional baseball players on their squad kind of overwhelms me. Harper mentioned it and said something like, “That’s why you pay these guys.” That is one perspective on things. In addition, there are simply a ton of men who have played for a very long time and in a lot of significant Major League Baseball games. Whatever anxiety or tension you may sense, they’re embracing it and finding the good in it, and it won’t make them smaller. They obviously made a run like this last year and appear to be doing so again. Simply put, there are a ton of pros and people that did a great job handling the situation.
Regarding the Dodgers, they are still trying to figure out what went wrong during their last three postseason appearances. Despite having quality and experience, their team has unexpectedly missed the playoffs three times in a row, thus it has not helped.
Manager Dave Roberts and the front office may share some of the guilt for not bringing in top players to meet the team’s most pressing requirements. However, the players themselves deserve some of the attention as well, particularly Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman for their collapses in crucial situations.
Although the Phillies’ superstars are producing in a way that seems unearthly, the Dodgers’ duo only managed one hit in the NLDS, an infield single. Both players had plenty of chances to turn around a game or gain momentum for the Dodgers, but they were never able to sustain their success in the NLDS.
Phillies are crushing the Diamondbacks.
After defeating the Diamondbacks 5-3 in Game 1 of the NLCS, the Phillies proceeded to dominate Tuesday night, shutting out the opposition 10-0.
Trea Turner, Harper, Castellanos, Schwarber, and Harper have all kept up their power swings, and the Phillies have so far benefited greatly from solid starting pitching.
