CONGRATULATIONS: Two Players’ Choice Awards Have Shohei Ohtani As a Finalist

Shohei Ohtani, an all-star player for the Los Angeles Angels, had another spectacular statistical season in 2023, placing him among the top candidates for several Players Choice Awards.

Ohtani is one of five finalists for the Outstanding Player Award and one of five for Player of the Year.

The greаt perfоrmer оn the field аnd in the clаssrооm hit.304/.412/.654 with 44 hоmers, 95 RBI, аnd 20 steаls fоr а 180 wRC+. оhtаni enjоyed his mоst prоductive оffensive seаsоn in his six-yeаr prоfessiоnаl cаreer, cаusing mоre dаmаge in а smаller sаmple size thаn he did the yeаr befоre.

The 29-year-old topped the AL in fWAR(6.6), homers, slugging percentage, wOBA, walks per game, and fWAR.

Ohtani is the second player in a row to make the finals in both categories. Ohtani was not honored that year.

The Players’ Choice Awards have been given out annually since 1992 for both on- and off-field achievements. Players from all 30 teams cast their votes late in the season at an in-person vote held in their own clubhouses.

Ohtani is nominated for Player of the Year alongside Ronald Acua Jr. and Mookie Betts, and the winner will be announced on Thursday, November 2 at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN’s SportsCenter.

The Angels aren’t giving up hope of re-signing Shohei Ohtani, despite the fact that he will become the most highly sought-after free agent in MLB history next month. No signals have been dropped on Mike Trout, although he has recently promised to try to persuade his colleague to remain with the Angels.

Ohtani was expected to sign a contract worth more than $500 million until he injured his elbow. Many teams in the league will be interested in him regardless of whether or not he earns that much.

Since the expected 2023 American League MVP Award winner is thought to desire to remain in Southern California, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are likely to be the Angels’ primary rivals for Ohtani.
