Michael Grove had greater playing time with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023 after making his Major League debut the previous season
Due to injuries to Ryan Pepiot and Tony Gonsolin, the right-hander was added to the starting rotation on Opening Day. He was mostly utilized as a starter until September, when he was moved to the bullpen.
Grove pitched in 18 games (12 starts), finishing 2-3 with a 6.13 ERA, 4.36 FIP, 1.48 WHIP, and 9.5 strikeouts per nine over a career-high 69 innings pitched. Despite two stays on the 15-day injured list, Grove was remained active.
With 6.1 straight shutout innings to end the regular season, the 26-year-old earned a spot on the Dodgers postseason roster for the National League Division Series.
In an Instagram post, Grove discussed his 2023 season and hinted at bigger things to come.
Grove faced the Arizona Diamondbacks and in two innings pitched, gave up one run while recording two strikeouts. He was one of the Dodgers’ five rookies in the NLDS, along with Bobby Miller, Ryan Pepiot, James Outman, and Emmet Sheehan.
Grove has always been a starter, so it wouldn’t be shocking if he starts to establish himself as a valuable member of the Dodgers bullpen come 2024 and beyond.
Michael Grove merited a seat in the NLDS.
It is fantastic that he will be able to go multiples. Michael has been excellent based on what we’ve seen of him this year. His delivery is unique; instead of throwing a fastball, he uses a plus-slider. He’s special in that regard, then. He is going to take advantage of every chance.
