For the Warriors’ season opening, Draymond Green is ‘questionable’

It appears that Draymond Green will be absent from the Golden State Warriors’ preseason activities. After suffering an ankle injury at the beginning of training camp, the veteran forward has been unable to participate in any of the activities. Despite the absence of Draymond Green, the Warriors have been able to maintain their level of competition by utilizing some different lines. However, once the new season begins, the veteran forward’s leadership as well as his excellent defensive play will be required.

Draymond Green ‘questionable’ for Warriors season opener

Steve Kerr, who was a guest on the “Willard and Dibs show” on 95.7 The Game, stated that Draymond Green will not be returning to the rotation for the Warriors while they are playing their preseason schedule. In addition to this, Kerr disclosed that Green’s status for the Warriors’ season opener on October 25 against the Phoenix Suns is currently unknown.

“He’s not going to play this week,” said Kerr regarding the player’s status. On the other hand, he is doing exceptionally well. He spent the weekend with us on our trip, where he also fit in some individual workouts, and his mobility has significantly improved as a result. It doesn’t really matter to me whether he plays on opening night or the second week of the season, whenever that may be. I’m not too worried about it. It has been a very long year. We merely wish for Draymond to be in good health because he is vital to our team. When he is on the field, we transform into one of the most formidable defensive units in the league.

During Draymond Green’s absence, Golden State has been playing more of a “small ball” lineup. Steph Curry and Chris Paul have been starting at the guard spots, while Klay Thompson has been playing more of a forward role for the team. When Draymond Green gets back into the rotation, it will be interesting to see if Steve Kerr sticks with the same starting lineup or not.

Green just recently extended his current deal with the Warriors by four years and added an additional $100 million in guaranteed compensation. Green’s tenacious defense and high basketball IQ will be key factors in determining how far Golden State goes in their pursuit of an additional NBA championship. As a result of this, it is not surprising that they are prepared to exercise patience as he recovers from the injury he sustained to his ankle.
