The Dodgers consider Shohei Ohtani a “priority,” but he “won’t be enough” this winter

It’s time for the offseason, which is the next best part of the year, as the Dodgers season is ending much earlier than anticipated. The reason LA has been anticipating this winter for a while is one player: Shohei Ohtani.

This offseason is the Dodgers’ opportunity to finally sign Ohtani, who has been on their radar for a while. They want to pursue him aggressively, and his free agency will be one of the most closely followed baseball events in history.

Shohei Ohtani has spoken, and Angels must act — with a trade — for good of the franchise | Sporting News

ESPN.com’s MLB reporter Alden Gonzalez talked about the Dodger’s outlook for the forthcoming offseason and examined their top goal. The explanation, which naturally had everything to do with Ohtani, was anything from shocking.

The person you probably guessed to be the top offseason priority is Shohei Ohtani. It is anticipated that the Dodgers will be one of the most, if not the most, assertive suitors for the two-way star of the generation. There is, however, a crucial disclaimer: Ohtani will not be pitching in 2024. Furthermore, given the ambiguity of the first description, it’s likely that he will be recovering from his second Tommy John surgery, so there are good reasons to be concerned about how long he can play as a two-way player. As these playoffs have shown, the Dodgers are in serious need of starting pitchers. Stated differently, Ohtani won’t be sufficient.

Alden Gonalez of ESPN.com reports

In 2024, Ohtani won’t be taking the mound, thus the Dodgers will need to find another pitcher. They will still probably pursue the two-way superstar despite this, but they will have to find other sources of funding.

There is a glaring hole in their starting lineup, and a lot of supporters want them to sign a top starter this winter. LA will have to spend money in order to make this work, even though Blake Snell, Aaron Nola, and others will be available.

Ohtani’s acquisition would be tremendous for the team and its supporters. With his bat, he remains a valuable asset even if he does not take the mound the next season. But in 2024, the Dodgers will require more than simply him.

In order to get ready for this year, they had a really dull offseason last winter. Now that the time has come to gather, the Dodgers must ensure that they are among the teams spending the most time engaged during the winter.
