Texas Rangers choose Houston Astros as opponent for American League championship

Things have been a touch chippy off the field lately between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. In not too far off future, maybe, the rivals for the Silver Boot may have an opportunity to resolve their differences on the field.

The Rangers and Astros will play in the American League Championship Series if FanGraphs’ odds hold true.

That would be a Lone Star treat, wouldn’t it?

It makes sense to pick Houston in the ALCS. The reigning World Series champions defeated Texas in a tiebreaker to win the AL West, and they will have home-field advantage when they play the Minnesota Twins in the ALDS.

In the starting Saturday, the best-of-five series between the Twins and Houston is predicted by FanGraphs to be won 56.1% of the time.

The ALDS between the Rangers and Baltimore Orioles appears to be defying the odds. The Orioles had a bye into the Division Series and won a record-tying 101 games in the American League.

Texas had to start the playoffs via the Wild Card route since they won 11 fewer games in the regular season. The Tampa Bay Rays were swept by the Rangers.

The Orioles are the obvious underdogs when the series begins at Camden Yards on Saturday. The match is set to begin at noon and will be shown nationally on FS1.

The Rangers have 53.9% chance making it to the ALCS, even with a starting rotation that is still in flux and a week of travel planned. It is evident that Baltimore has a 46.1% chance of winning.

In the National League, it is predicted that the Los Angeles Dodgers (58%) will defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, while the Atlanta Braves (60.9%) will defeat the Philadelphia Phillies.

However, the Rangers and Astros are the favorites to play one other in the postseason for the first time, which will intrigue fans throughout the largest state in the union. And there’s a trip to the World Series up for grabs if it does.
