Joel Embiid: He rejected Cameroon and France because he is a champion, not a loser

Joel Embiid, the center for the Philadelphia 76ers, used social media on Thursday to explain why he chose to support Team USA over Cameroon and France at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The chance to represent his son’s home nation was the primary consideration for 29-year-old Embiid when he decided to wear the Stars and Stripes, but he acknowledged that it was not an easy choice.

Embiid tweeted, “I’m really proud and excited about this decision.” “It wasn’t simple. I am fortunate to live in the USA, France, and Cameroon. I decided it had to be Team USA after consulting with my relatives.

“I wish to participate in league play with my brothers. Since the day I arrived, my fans have been amazing, so I want to perform for them. Above all, I want to pay tribute to my American-born son. I want my boy to know that I represented him at my first Olympics.”

Instead of playing with the top American players in the NBA, Embiid will partner with Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama, two players who could have represented the host nation.

As the current league MVP, Embiid will make Team USA invincible when he teams up with James, Durant, and Curry.

Although the 76ers big man is a citizen of both France and the United States, he was born in Cameroon.

His joining Team USA is a step closer to bringing the nation back to its former glories of domination in the world arena.
