Austin Reaves is full of motivation ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers’ opening night 2023–24 NBA season matchup against the Denver Nuggets, just like his teammates LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But Colorado supporters couldn’t stop making fun of them for their most recent remarks
Lakers dominated the Nuggets
Every NBA fan is aware that following the Nuggets’ sweeping of the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, head coach Michael Malone and the team had many disparaging remarks to make about the Lakers. In Denver’s championship parade, Malone was even referred to as the “father of the Lakers.”
Naturally, the Purple and Gold were aware of what Malone and the Nuggets had to say about them, and as it turns out, this is providing the Lakers with extra motivation before to their rematch with the Nuggets in the season’s opening game.
Everyone knows, I believe, that it was aimed at us. If they’d want, they can do it in an indirect way. Regarding the Nuggets’ trash language, Reaves stated, “I think it adds a little bit of motivation to go play really well,” via Michael Corvo of ClutchPoints.
Austin Reaves made it clear earlier in their practice session on Tuesday that his intention to defeat them is not to ruin their ring night but rather to get off to a flawless start to the season and show everyone what they are made of. Moreover, how better to accomplish so than by triumphing over the current NBA champions?
“I look at the first few games and the Christmas game once I get the schedule, at least for me. Was obviously pleased to see Denver as the starting opponent. It’s fitting that they should have a spectacular night. .. You tip your hat to them because they played an incredible series against us and went on to defeat Miami in the Finals. Ultimately, though, if we can go ahead and win that opening game on their ring night, we’ll not only brighten their day but also get their season off to a strong start, Reaves continued.
As previously said, not just Austin Reaves is looking forward to playing the Nuggets in the season opener. When asked about their early matchup, Anthony Davis and LeBron James are somewhat agitated by the Nuggets’ trash-talking antics from their meetings with each other during the offseason.
Specifically, Davis expressed their disapproval of Denver’s disparaging remarks, stating: “It was just a lot of like the talking.” We understand that you won, but LeBron and I had some chats along the lines of, “We can’t wait.”
Nuggets fans react to Lakers’ threats
Nuggets supporters couldn’t help but chuckle at the Purple and Gold and taunt them for letting the Colorado team live in their brains rent-free amid all the buzz coming from the Lakers’ camp.
A humorous comment was made by a Denver fan, “We are the main topic of Lakers camp meanwhile Jokic is being asked about Deion Sanders.”
“These boys need to understand they aren’t threatening to them dawgs in CO,” another Nuggets fan stated. We need to fry bigger fish.
“It’s obvious that you got swept because your team and fan base don’t deserve it. All we heard was about how hard the series was and how it was the best performance by a team that was swept ever. Move on, you whiners,” another commenter said.
“Bro, they’re so sad that we won a championship and absolutely punked them,” remarked a fourth Denver fan. It’s just painful to witness.
However, these discussions make for an intriguing opening night matchup between the Lakers and Nuggets.
