Dodgers vs. Giants: Last Chance to Win 100; Gabe Kapler Fired

The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the San Francisco Giants, who dismissed manager Gabe Kapler on Friday, in their last three-game regular season matchup. Lance Lynn will start for the Dodgers

In November 2019, Kapler was given a three-year deal by the Giants. He was given a contract extension two years later, which carried through until the 2024 season. It followed after he led the Giants to their most victories ever—107—in a season that ended the Dodgers’ run of consecutive National League West championships.

But in the NL Division Series, the Dodgers emerged victorious, and the Giants have essentially declined ever since. To prevent a losing season, they must defeat the Dodgers this coming weekend.

Lynn, meanwhile, comes in at 12-11 with a 5.83 ERA and 1.40 WHIP from his total time spent with the Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. In ten starts after being traded to the Dodgers, Lynn has a 4.50 ERA.

In his most recent game against the Giants at Dodger Stadium, Lynn pitched six innings of two-run ball and struck out six batters.

Although Lynn still has a tendency to give up long runs, he has been able to control them in his previous few appearances, allowing only three home runs in his last three starts. That was following nine innings in which they had allowed six home runs.

Keaton Winn, a rookie who was called up in June but missed much of July and August due to injury, counters for the Giants. He has played in eight games (four starts) and is 1-2 with a 3.89 ERA.

The Dodgers’ postseason standing is unaffected by their last series of the season. Even though the Giants and Dodgers rivalry is always noteworthy in and of itself, Los Angeles can still win 100 games if they win two of three this weekend.

Asking manager Dave Roberts recently if he anticipated the team to win 100 games this season, he gave a direct answer.

“Most likely not,” Roberts answered. “I believe that we expected to win the division, but it was difficult to predict this given the division, talent, and parity in terms of the balanced schedule.” especially in light of everything we have experienced. Happy for our guys. They remained steadfast, and I believe we’re playing some of our greatest baseball right now, which excites me much.

In a historic August, the Dodgers went 24-5, giving them a commanding lead that helped them win the National League West for the tenth time in the previous eleven years.

Other noteworthy events from the past three games include Mookie Betts’ bid to become the 40th home run hitter—he needs just one more to attain that mark. This season, Freddie Freeman is likewise two doubles shy of 60.
