With Damian Lillard now on the Portland Trail Blazers, many are wondering what will happen to Jrue Holiday.
The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers have been mentioned as possible destinations for the former Milwaukee Bucks guard, but the Golden State Warriors have emerged as a surprise candidate.
According to NBA expert Brian Windhorst, the Warriors may try to trade for Jrue Holiday, but any deal would have to include Chris Paul because of his hefty contract. However, this theory seems extremely unlikely from the perspectives of both groups.
“The Golden State Warriors, who have interesting young players on their roster, plus a few far-out draft picks and swaps when Stephen Curry might be retired, could join the race [for Jrue Holiday], provided they’d be willing to re-trade Chris Paul,” said Windhorst.
The Blazers acquired Holiday with the thought that they may flip him for additional assets to add to what they received for Damian Lillard in a trade.
Portland may not find the Warriors to be the most attractive trade partners, and incorporating Chris Paul in a deal may not be in line with their trade objectives.
The Warriors might be hesitant to deal with their remaining draft assets and talented young players like Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.
The Warriors, however, have been working hard to incorporate Paul into their seasoned roster, so it’s unlikely that they’d be eager to move him before giving him a shot to contribute to the club during the regular season.
