NBA great Dwayne Wade has said that he has accepted the fact that he will never see his daughter Zaya play professional basketball.
Zaya, Wade’s 16-year-old daughter, first disclosed her transgender identity when she was 12. The ex-Heat actor said he’s learnt to let his kid develop into her own person by respecting her autonomy.
Instead of playing baseball with his son, as Wade had planned, he got something even better: he got to “meet his child.”
I’m in possession of a Zaya. It’s Bryce for LeBron. Melo now has Kiyan. In an interview with the Club Shay Shay podcast, Wade detailed his upcoming family plans at a time when fellow NBA players LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony were also beginning kids.
Our future generations will be intertwined in the hooping world.I know, right? Our family is going to grow by three! We on!'”
With a wry comment, Wade said, “See what happens when you start making plans for other people’s lives?” after Zaya disclosed her identity.
Wade has proved he is willing to put his daughter’s happiness before his own, rather than letting his own ambitions get in the way.
Then, I finally got to meet my baby. “Zaya hasn’t transitioned into anything,” he stated, despite the fact that this topic is popular among the general public.
She’s still a youngster, albeit she’s entering the teenage years. I’ve seen her grow up before my eyes. We haven’t experienced any kind of change.
While the rest of the world has changed, I still see the same kid I’ve known since May 29, 2007. It’s still the same.
Wade has a 21-year-old son named Zaire and a 13-year-old daughter named Zaya with his ex-wife Siohbaughn Funches-Wade.
Kaavia, 4, is his daughter with Gabrielle Union, and Xavier, 9, is his son from a previous relationship with Aja Metoyer.
