The Atlanta Braves, already grappling with a series of injuries to their pitching rotation, received another setback as they placed right-hander Charlie Morton on the 15-day injured list on Sunday.
Unfortunately, this move effectively rules out the 14-game-winning pitcher from participating in the upcoming NL Division Series (NLDS).
Charlie Morton, at 39 years old, had to cut short his start against the Washington Nationals last Friday due to persistent pain in his right index finger, limiting him to just one inning on the mound.
Following a subsequent MRI, it was confirmed that Morton had sustained a finger sprain, according to manager Brian Snitker.
With Morton’s placement on the injured list, he won’t be eligible for activation until October 7th, a date that falls after the Braves will have already finalized their roster for the best-of-five NLDS.
Atlanta, boasting the best record in baseball, has secured a bye for the initial best-of-three opening round of the playoffs.
