Surprisingly, the Dodgers Drop in the Most Recent September Power Rankings

The Dodgers have somewhat returned to normal in September after an explosive August. They continue to play excellent baseball, but this month has seen a few of their series slip away. Given that they unofficially clinched the NL West division title weeks ago, it’s not really worrying.

The group has been playing with that attitude for some time, just waiting for the decisive second. The Dodgers are now free to enjoy their remaining games after it finally happened over the weekend against the Seattle Mariners.

However, the most recent MLB.com Power Rankings show a modest decline for them due to a minor slip-up over a few series. Los Angeles dropped from third to fourth place, trailing the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, and Atlanta Braves.

“The Dodgers completed a sweep of the Mariners on Sunday after clinching their 10th NL West title in the previous 11 seasons on Saturday. It was appropriate that Los Angeles’ three-time Cy Young Award-winning ace, Clayton Kershaw, received the start even though he took a no-decision in the decisive victory. Los Angeles continued to watch Kershaw’s workload with an eye toward October after giving him 10 days off, and he didn’t skip a beat in a shutout five innings.

Prior to the start of the postseason, LA will continue to push through the upcoming two weeks and make adjustments. Despite being difficult, they had a successful year because they won the division.

Unlike previous seasons, the Dodgers’ strength this year is their potent offense, which is led by NL MVP front-runner Mookie Betts. However, a healthy Kershaw may make a big difference in the postseason.

Success during the regular season is fantastic and should not be taken for granted. However, what happens in the playoffs is what really counts and will determine how this club is seen in the long run.
