Julio Rodriguez knotted the score once more with a two-run home ball in the bottom of the 10th inning after Brandon Drury had given the Angels a 5-3 lead with a two-run blast in the top of the inning. Rodrguez became the second player in franchise history to reach the 30/30 club after Alex Rodriguez when it handed him 30 home runs and 36 stolen bases.

Additionally, Rodriguez is just the fourth MLB player to turn 22 or younger and enter the 30/30 club. He had four hits overall for the night.

Against Trent Thornton (0-2) in the 11th, Eduardo Escobar singled to right field with one out, moving automatic runner Kyren Paris up to third. Then, Grichuk singled to center, scoring the go-ahead run by bringing in Paris. With Escobar out at third, Gabe Speier got Brett Phillips to hit into a fielder’s choice. When Eugenio Suarez erroneously handled a grounder from Jordyn Adams, Grichuk scored, moving Phillips up to third. The next batter, Nolan Schanuel, singled to center, driving in a run. When Isaiah Campbell entered the game, Drury was forced to fly out after Zach Neto walked to load the bases.

The Angels manager Phil Nevin stated, “Just the energy in the dugout was great. They whupped our tails a few weeks ago at home in four games.” “I know there is a lot to unpack in those last two innings, but the fight in these guys and the at-bats, it was just really good.”

Rodriguez’s game-tying home run was allowed by José Marte (1-0), but Los Angeles still won. For his first save of the year, Jimmy Herget recorded the final three outs.

Due to Texas’s half-game lead over Seattle in the AL Wild Card race following the Rangers’ 10-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, Seattle’s postseason chances were eliminated.

Scott Servais, manager of the Mariners, described it as “crazy.” “Many plays go one way or the other, and you’re most likely on the winning side. But in the end, we failed to complete it. We must perform well in those crucial situations. Even though we had those at-bats, it didn’t work out for us tonight.

Teoscar Hernandez’s sacrifice fly and Cal Raleigh’s two-run homer in the first inning gave the Mariners the lead. Logan O’Hoppe of Los Angeles tied it up with two home runs, a two-run blast in the second and a solo shot in the fourth, both off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert, who went seven innings and gave up six hits and three runs.

O’Hoppe was content following Monday’s game, despite declaring last week that he was “disgusted” with his offensive performance.

O’Hoppe stated, “I’m feeling better. Now that it’s working, I feel like myself again.

After Raleigh’s home run, Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers retired 11 straight batters and allowed just two hits in his last six innings of work.

“I kind of knew their game plan coming in was looking for (fastballs) and sliders, so throwing in the changeup and working the fastball away was going to help a lot,” said Detmers. After the first inning, I kind of stuck to it. More fastballs, curveballs, and changeups are thrown to try to throw them off their game.

NOTES

Schanuel increased his streak of being on base to 18 games, breaking the previous record for the longest on-base streak to begin a career. With his 28th home run of the year, Raleigh broke his own franchise record for the most home runs by a catcher.
